OVERVIEW
This workshop is individually crafted to suit your specific requirements and designed and structured for students and professionals who have some prior experience or understanding of the techniques used to create decorative paint effects. Through this workshop, you will gain a greater understanding of the skills needed to master the ancient art of faux granite, sandstone and malachite paint techniques and become comfortable using the paints and glazes used to create them. You will be introduced to acrylic scumble glazes & colourants, used by restoration professionals and scenic artists around the world, and shown their correct use and application in a variety of situations.
Workshops will be run by Simon Nobs, a paint effects artist, specialist interior decorator and designer with over 35 years experience working in restoration and conservation. The workshop will start with an overview of the day and a brief history of the paint effect over tea and coffee.
Before starting on the practice boards Simon will give a detailed explanation of the correct use of primers and basecoats to be applied to a variety of surfaces and you will then prepare and basecoat the sample boards. Whilst the boards are drying, Simon will give a demonstration of some of the techniques you will be introduced to. You will then be guided through the different stages used to create professional looking faux stone effects, much admired and sort after around the world. You will then be shown the correct use of varnishes and sealers to protect and enhance your work.
